Bandar Seri Begawan: The Ministry of Information, in coordination with the Sultanate’s Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, organised an Omani evening at the Empire Hotel.
It was organised within the framework of the Sultanate’s participation as a Guest of Honour at Brunei Book Fair, which coincided with Brunei Darussalam celebrating the 35th anniversary of its National Day, and Bandar Seri Begawan as the capital of Islamic Culture for the Asia region in 2019.
The evening was held under the auspices of Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bolkiah Bint Sultan bin Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in the presence of Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport of Brunei Darussalam, Ali bin Khalfan Al Jabri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information and Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al Maskari, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al Maskari, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam said that the Sultanate’s participation as the first Guest of Honour at Brunei Book Fair reflects the deep bilateral relations between the Sultanate and Brunei, which are translated into diplomacy that aimed at increasing the pace of cultural exchanges in light of the common characteristics and commonalities between the Omani and Brunei peoples.
Sheikh Al Maskari thanked the Ministry of Information whose participation has a great role in making success the Sultanate’s participation as a Guest of Honour at the Brunei Book Fair and its appearance in an honourable image.
At the ceremony, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information presented a commemorative gift to the chief guest of the ceremony.
The Oud Amateur Society presented musical performances inspired by the Omani artistic heritage and some Brunei musical heritage in association with one of the Brunei musical groups.
During the evening, a documentary film produced by the Sultanate of Oman Television entitled “Brunei through Oman Eyes” was screened.
The documentary highlighted the depth and strength of the relationship between the two countries and their peoples during the past thirty-four years.
The evening was attended by ministers, their deputies, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Brunei Darussalam, presidents of universities, members of the Omani community and media professionals.
