A source of pride for Omani women: Minister of Social Development

Muscat: Laila bint Ahmed bin Awadh Al-Najar, Minister of Social Development, said that the Omani Women’s Day is a precious occasion and a source of pride for Omani women and is celebrated by all sectors of society.

The role Omani woman has played throughout the country’s history has been recognised by the government.

It is a day of pride for the Omani woman and is a day wherein we recall with gratitude the support the Omani women had received from late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur who led the Blessed Renaissance, she said.

“We are privileged with the Royal Care accorded by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik who has reaffirmed his belief in the capabilities of the Omani women and for His Majesty the Sultan’s royal care for engagement of the Omani women in all fields,” she added.

She also reaffirmed that the Omani woman has been - throughout history - an active partner in development and during the dawn of the blessed renaissance led by late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour, where the Omani woman has responded to the call for building the modern state of the Sultanate.

The Basic Law of the State has guaranteed equal rights and duties for citizens regardless of gender, she said adding that Oman’s laws were fair to women as they have taken into consideration the woman’s nature as a privilege.

The Sultanate has signed the Convention on the Elimination of ‘All Forms of Discrimination against Women’ vide Royal Decree No. 24/2005, something that reaffirmed the government of Oman’s belief in that fact that building the state and the society and achievement of development and growth cannot be achieved except with the participation of all sectors of the society, she said.

Since the dawn of the Blessed Renaissance, the Omani woman has assumed leading posts in the administrative units of the state as a minister, undersecretary, ambassador and other leading positions, she said

“We are proud of the Royal Care and support, His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has accorded to women coupled with His Majesty’s confidence in the Omani woman as seen in the late cabinet reshuffle,” she added.

“On the occasion of the Omani Women’s Day , we extend our thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik for His Majesty’s continued support and royal directives for empowerment of the Omani woman in all spheres,” she concluded.
