MTC holds meeting with land transport owners

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTC) held a meeting with a number of land transport owners, to discuss several issues of concern to the local carrier, including transportation by foreign land transport between two points, entry visas for foreign land transport drivers to the Sultanate’s territory. 

A statement issued by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology said, “the ministry held a meeting with a number of land transport owners in the Sultanate, to discuss several issues of concern to the local carrier, including transportation by foreign land transport between two points within the Sultanate’s territory, entry visas for foreign land transport drivers to the Sultanate’s territory, and the transport priority for the carrier Local and also the procedures for registering trailers with the Royal Oman Police.”

The statement added, “The ministry has also held several meetings with the competent authorities to discuss these issues, and a number of proposals have been made that contribute to supporting the local carrier and boosting investment in the land transport sector in the Sultanate in accordance with Oman's vision of 2040.”

The Ministry would like to point out, “A gradual reduction of the total number of permits to enter empty foreign land transport means of the Sultanate's lands for transportation outside the Sultanate for a full year, starting on Tuesday, 20 October 2020.“

“In addition, permanently cease the issuance of these permits after the period referred to above, and all beneficiaries of these means must correct their situation by working on contracting with the local carrier or investing in the transport sector.”
