Omani woman photographer wins international accolades

Muscat:  From among nearly 2,000 photographers from more than 90 countries, an Omani woman photographer succeeded in winning a competition organised by the International Federation of Photography Art (FIAP).

Photographer Marwa Al Yarubi bagged a place among the top ten slots of the international competition ‘stay at home’ organised by the FIAP. The Omani Association of Photography participated with a group of Omani photographers in this competition.

Al Yarubi participated in a visual work that showcased the topic of the competition and the importance of taking necessary precautions to prevent Covid-19 pandemic.
She said: “Through the photo, I wanted to express the current situation of the pandemic and the people’s keenness to wear masks while urging them at the same time to wear it to prevent the virus. I use the black and white technique to give aesthetics to the work through the light and shade present in this technology.”
She said: “I am happy about this achievement and raising the name of Oman at these international forums, hoping that I will get another honou soon.”

“During the pandemic, I was able to complete five artworks related to the Covid-19 pandemic, and I also used the time of my stay at home to develop my skills and learn a number of photography courses,” Al Yarubi added.

Early this year, Marwa won golden medals at New View International photography competition held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and she won a gold and bronze medal in a TOUR CIRCUIT 2020 photography competition in Serbia.

Marwa Al Yarubi was honoured on Saturday evening at an online ceremony held by the FIAP.
