Foundation stone laid for new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah

Salalah: The new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, which is being built at a cost of OMR129 million, had its foundation stone laid on September 19, under the patronage of  Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of  Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, the Minister of Health and a number of officials.

The construction of the  hospital is a high-priority project, aimed at bringing better healthcare to the people of the Dhofar Governorate, according to the Oman News Agency (ONA). The hospital is expected to be completed in four years.

Work began at the site in the beginning of 2020, and when complete, the hospital will cover a total area of 200,000 square metres, in addition to six more floors spanning an area of a further 94,000 square metres. The hospital layout was designed keeping in mind the needs of patients of the area.

The new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah will have beds for 700 male and female patients.

 As part of the project, the new hospital will have a radiology department consisting of three x-ray machines, two CT machines, and an MRI machine, in addition to other ultrasound devices. A pharmacy and medical lab will also be present on the premises.

It will also feature a daycare unit, and departments for endoscopy, lithotripsy, and nephrology, in addition to a room for minor surgeries. Physiotherapy and chemotherapy areas will also be allocated. Administrative buildings such as offices and medical and general stores will also be part of the project, which will include a helipad to bring in patients by helicopter, a water treatment plant, backup generators, drinking water purification services, and other public facilities.
