Muscat: 500 fishermen have benefitted from the fishermen's village in Al-Wusta Governorate, the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources said.
The Ministry is currently continuing the construction work for the second village, in the Wilayat of Masirah, on an area of 4,537 square meters due to its rich fishery environment. It is also carrying out advisory studies for the establishment of another village in the Wilayat of Mahout.
The ministry said in a statement: "During the last period, the Ministry allocated lands close to the coast for the establishment of integrated villages, facilities for fishermen, which achieve an appropriate and safe environment for the stability and to serve fishermen from the various governorates of the Sultanate."
The Fishermen's Village in the Wilayat of Duqm is the first of these projects that enable full-time fishermen to work in the fishing profession, with an area of 4,573 square meters, from which about 500 full-time Omani fishermen from outside the Al Wusta Governorate benefit.
