Ministry of Social Development slams claims of citizen sponsored by an expat

Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development has issued a statement clarifying about the citizen who is sponsored by an expat in North Al Batinah Governorate.

A statement issued online by the Ministry of Social Development said, "The Ministry followed up on what is being circulated on social media platforms about a citizen from Shinas who is sponsored by an expatriate worker."

"The ministry, represented by the Department of Social Development in the wilayat of Shinas, confirmed that the expatriate providing care to the citizen is hired for a fee to clean the yard, attend to existing crops and livestock raised by a woman."

"The elderly citizen is a member of the Social Security family and does not have a breadwinner or agent to receive the monthly security pension that is disbursed to her, and for this, she receives it directly through the bank. The woman receives attention and care from the neighbours."

"The Ministry has sought several times through the department in the wilayat to transfer the citizen woman to the Social Welfare Home in the Wilayat of Rustaq in order to receive health follow-up and social care, but she refused and preferred to remain in her home. The Ministry affirmed that it would not hesitate to follow up on her condition and provide her with the necessary social care," the statement added.
