Oman tourist guides get skill enhancement training

Muscat: A training programme which aims to raise the skill levels of tour guides in Oman is being conducted at the Ministry of Tourism.
Jointly conducted by German University of Technology (GUtech) and World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA), it aims to enhance the overall performance of guides by helping them understand the psychology of tourists, skills of managing tour groups, along with technical translations of tourism sites.

The sessions also focus on tourism itineraries, time management, and identify various emergency procedures. They introduce new ways to conduct an engaging tour session. This is the first training programme to be conducted by WFTGA in the country.
Face of the country
Mary Clark, trainer from the WFTGA said that the association was happy to be present in the Sultanate and that they would be glad to include Oman in the global association. She also added that tour guides are the face of the country as they create the experience for tourism destinations in the Sultanate.
The event was inaugurated by Maitha Saif Al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Tourism, who thanked the tour guides from various organisations, including the National Museum, Mark Tours and Nizwa Castle.
She stressed the importance of tour guides in the country in sharing the unique culture and tourism experience with visitors which come to the Sultanate. The programme will run until August 29.
