Vijender will be world champ if he remains focussed: Lee Beard

London: Indian boxing star Vijender Singh is a world champion in the making if he continues to be as focussed and disciplined as he has been so far in the professional circuit, feels his British trainer Lee Beard.
"I have trained a lot of boxers but his talent is outstanding from others. He has all the skills to be a world champion," Beard, who has worked with the likes of Floyd Mayweather Sr besides being the assistant trainer to former WBA champion Ricky Hatton, said.
Vijender has won all his six contests so far via Technical Knockout, his opponents finding it tough to even last the entire duration of the bouts.
His most latest victory came in Bolton, where he outpunched Poland's Andrzej Soldra in under three rounds.
"If you take into consideration, he only boxed two weeks ago, it was a great performance, it's difficult to fight so close like that in the profession ranks," Beard felt.
Beard said Vijender's quick-thinking inside the ring is admirable and makes him a contender for the world title in the future.
"I think Vijender is moving at a rapid pace, he's highly skilled and strong with world-class power. But he has the ability to outsmart his opponents and he is able to make the vital adjustments needed to win big fights. I think he'll be a world champion if he stays disciplined and focussed," he said.
"His power is a big factor but he has a tremendous jab and he uses that real well," he added.
