Royal Opera House Muscat’s new season is ‘Excellence in diversity’

Muscat: Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) announced its exciting new 2016-2017 season, titled, ‘Excellence in Diversity,’ at a press conference yesterday in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd Al Said, Umberto Fanni, Director General of ROHM, and other dignitaries.
As the ROHM celebrates its fifth anniversary on October 12 and commences its sixth year of operation, it will continue to offer a wide range of top quality Omani, Arab and international productions in many different genres – opera, ballet, concerts, jazz, musical, world music as well as shows from Oman, the region and around the world, along with some special events.
Six countries
The season’s roster of operas is presented by prestigious companies from six different countries - Monaco, Germany, France, Russia, Italy and Belgium.
In addition to Roméo et Juliette, the selections include Wagner’s great romantic epic, Lohengrin, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, The Italian Girl in Algiers, Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers).
Besides this, world-renowned Placido Domingo will sing in a gala concert, and will also
conduct the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (ROSO) on a separate night.
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the ROHM will open its doors for the public to join in the festivities with concerts, exhibitions, interactive events, pop-up features and much more.
The exciting Fifth Anniversary Open House Days will be held in the month of October, 2016.
New series
In a new series called Coffee & Dates with Artists, audiences will be invited to an informal setting where selected performing artists will share interesting experiences. As a traditional Omani gesture of welcome, coffee and dates will be served to all who come.
“It is important to remind everyone that from September 2016 through the end of February 2017, all events will start at 7pm, and from March through the end of May 2017, all events will start at 7.30pm. Updates and additional performances will be announced in a timely fashion,” Umberto Fanni added.
