Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture has allowed beekeepers to transfer beehives to Dhofar governorate .
A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries said that after coordination with the Covid-19 Supreme Committee, it was agreed to allow beekeepers who want to transfer their beehives from the northern governorates of the Sultanate to the Governorate of Dhofar, during the period from July to October 2020."
"This decision comes upon requests from the beekeepers, with the aim of taking advantage of the climate and nature of the governorate during this period to feed the bees with the nectar of various flowers that the Dhofar Mountains are famous for. This will lead to the strengthening of beehives, increasing their activity and reproduction, and there is the possibility of dividing them later into several hives, as this will constitute an economic return for beekeepers."
"Because of the importance of bees as a national wealth, the Ministry sought to obtain the approval of the Supreme Committee to allow the transfer according to the conditions specified in the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries No. 105/2017. Interested beekeepers can submit their applications to the agriculture development departments in their wilayats," the statement added.
