Oman education: Pakistan School Muscat students excel in examination

Muscat: Students of the Pakistan School Muscat (PSM) have made history and scored the highest-ever results in the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in the last 15 years of the introduction of curriculum in the school.
“In our IGCSE results, the commendable grades make up 79 per cent of the total result which is an outstanding and record-breaking performance in the history of Pakistan School Muscat,” Ataullah Niazi, senior principal at PSM emphasised.
“Out of the total 59 students who appeared for different papers of the IGCSE exam, Javeria Syed and M. Umar Iqbal were in the top with five A*s touching a GPA of 6.
Syed Ali Mustafa, Shahkar Bangash, Abdullah Suleimani, Seema Khan and Zahra Ayaz scored four A* and one A with a GPA of 5.8, whereas Areej Ali, Aneeq Mahmood, Rujin Sureshta, Minhal Aftab and Zain ul Abideen received three A*s and two As, Niazi added.
The students also put up a good show in the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), where the pass percentage was 93.
“The total GPA achieved was 4.1 which is yet another feather in our hat.” Niazi further said.
The students whose overall result was an A*which equals to an outstanding result included, Asma Ali, Fatima Asif , Rabia Ahmad, Iman Amjad, Ramsha Kiran, Asma Rafique, Osama Saleem, M Haseeb Ullah, Amna Ibrahim, Marwa Najam, Hamna Nazeer, Iman Tariq, Zinab Siddiuq, Komal Sajid and Haziq Hussain.
“We appreciate the brilliant students of PSM for their hard work and scintillating results. This result is undoubtedly catalysed by the efforts of the teachers who always went the extra mile to take students to this level of academic excellence.
Higher hopes
“Hence, these movers and shakers of PSM are going to excel in the next university exams while the school management and the faculty hope for still better results for the students of Pakistan School Muscat.”
According to Niazi, Pakistan School Muscat currently has a 49 to 51 per cent ratio of girls and boys.
IGCSE curriculum is currently only available at PSM out of the seven Pakistani schools across the Sultanate and might be expanded to the Pakistan School in Salalah in the near future, according to Niazi.
Out of the 190 students who appeared for the FBISE exams, 71 were from Muscat and the rest 119 were from the interiors including those from Pakistan schools in Nizwa, Salalah, Musannah and Sohar.
Expansion plans
Niazi further said that the school’s campus in Musannah is under expansion with a land already identified in the area, “We have already identified a land area for the expansion of our school in Musannah and construction work will start soon. We are also working on expanding our campus in Nizwa with a building already being identified.”
The new Pakistan school in Buraimi which was officially inaugurated on August 10 has been operating since August 1 and has already registered over 160 students.
