Tourism ministry issues COVID-19 prevention guide

Muscat: The Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday issued a guide containing Covid-19 preventive measures to be applied at travel and tourism offices.
The step comes in implementation of decisions taken by the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and terms set for the re-opening of travel and tourism offices.
The guide seeks to provide personal protection for workers at travel and tourism offices, tour organisers, tourist guides and tourist groups in a manner that strikes a balance that sustains business-as-usual and precautionary measures.
The preventive procedures include training workers on safe ways of dealing with clients, including social distancing, providing hygiene requirements, sterilization and personal protection supplies.
They also include preventive measures to be undertaken prior to the arrival of tourists, requiring tourists to present medical certificates, conducting online booking to avoid paperwork and checking that all tourists have health insurance before finalising booking formalities.
It is recommended that tours be organised in batches of not more than 15 people as a measure to facilitate social distancing. It is also required to use billboards to display reminders about instructions and preventive measures to be pursued by visitors.
