North Batinah records biggest single-day COVID-19 spike

Muscat: North Batinah has recorded the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases over the last 10 days, data from the Ministry of Health has shown.
The governorate saw 285 new cases of infection on 23 June, the highest number of fresh cases reported outside Muscat. A total of 2,595 cases of the disease have been reported in North Al Batinah so far, up from 1,502 on June 14.
In the governorate, the highest number of cases has been in the capital, Sohar, which saw 87 more people test positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of reported incidences of the disease to 889.
Wilayat Suwaiq recorded just one case less 86, which means the total number of infections there is 631. In Saham, a further 48 people were found to test positive for the disease, and that wilayat has 413 COVID cases.
Both of the other two wilayats of the Governorate of North Al Batinah reported 22 fresh cases each. The total number of cases in Liwa is now 236, while in Shinas, which borders the United Arab Emirates, 231 cases have been so far reported.
In total, North Batinah has recorded 2,595 cases of the novel coronavirus, the highest incidence of the disease outside the Governorate of Muscat, which still has the lion’s share of people who’ve so far tested positive for COVID-19, at 22,796.
