Two pharmacies in Oman fined for flouting consumer law

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Department in South Al Batinah has imposed administrative fines amounting to OMR 1,000 against two pharmacies for violating the Consumer Protection Law.

A statement issued by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) said, ”The judicial officers in the Public Prosecution for Consumer Protection Administration in South Al Batinah have seized two pharmacies in Barka that had been selling masks at a price higher than the approved rate for that particular type of mask. They had been charging an additional percentage of profit exceeding the percentage set by the Ministry of Health.”

“This is contrary to the resolution related to increasing prices of goods and services which are based on the Consumer Protection Law, promulgated by Royal Decree, which calls for an administrative fine of 500 OMR by each violator.” the statement added.
