Muscat: People living across Oman are advised to wear masks in public areas including residential buildings and office establishments or they will be fined up to OMR1500, says Major Mudhar Al Mazruii from the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
According to Al Mazruii, the Supreme Committee dealing with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Oman has instructed and issued a list of hefty fines to be charged on those who are found violating the decision.
“Individuals who are caught without a facial mask in public areas including their residential buildings and offices will be fined OMR20. However, if the establishment is caught not adhering to the instructions issued by the Supreme Committee and enforcing its employees to wear face masks it will face a fine up to OMR1500,” Al Mazruii said.
“There are in total eight violations listed by the Supreme Committee, that includes refusing to take a test for COVID-19 after being suggested to do so by a health expert, people who are not abiding and adhering to quarantine, opening of commercial activities that hasn’t been listed by the authorities, social gathering especially during Eid, not wearing face masks in public areas as well as public transport and offices and those who are not following the precautionary measures issued by the Supreme Committee,” the major added.
He said that on May 21, the Supreme Committee has given the responsibility to the ROP to issue fines and follow up on those who are violating or not abiding by the precautionary measures issued by the Committee.
It is to be noted that people who hold gatherings especially during Eid holidays will be fined OMR1500 and those attending the gatherings will be fined OMR100 per person, the major said.
