People with high temperature to not be allowed into shopping malls

Muscat: People who have a body temperature of more than 37.5 degrees will not be allowed inside malls and shopping centres, Muscat Municipality has said.

The ruling came as part of a number of new measures introduced by the municipality to keep people safe during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and was included as part of Municipal Decision number 199/2020, which sheds light on the safety measures that need to be observed by commercial establishments.

The decision stipulates that malls and shopping centres should sanitise all carts and trolleys before and after each use, ensure adequate ventilation inside the mall, promote social distancing with a minimum distance of two metres between people to be observed, provide personal protection equipment to their workers and employees, and to not conduct any business and/or activity not approved by the Supreme Committee to deal with COVID-19.

The decision also said that those employees at shopping centres who had symptoms of illness needed to be isolated, and those establishments that do not follow these measures will be fined OMR 500, in addition to having their premises closed for three days.

Should these regulations be violated again, that fine will increase to OMR 2,000 followed by temporary closure of the shop for up to 10 days.
