Muscat: The Chairman of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has issued on Sunday a decision to prohibiting the circulation of sterilizers that contain misleading data for the consumer.
A statement issued by the PACP said, “His Excellency Dr Said bin Khamis Al Kaabi, issued on Sunday a decision to prohibiting the circulation of sterilizers that contain misleading data for the consumer with regard to sterile elements and its ability to protect against diseases or epidemics specified in the name.”
“The provider is committed to fulfilling the relevant conditions Health and safety, and obtain the relevant approvals from the competent authorities,” the statement added
The statement pointed out that: “The decision referred to in the second article also stipulated that the provider commits to withdrawing the existing quantities of the products that contain the data referred to in the first article from all the Sultanate’s markets in order to preserve the public health.”
“And in its third article, without prejudice to the penal penalties stipulated in the aforementioned consumer protection law, whoever violates the provisions of this decision shall be penalized with an administrative fine of not less than OMR 50, and not more than OMR 1,000, and the penalty is doubled in if the violation is repeated.
“The statement also said, "In the event that this violation continues, an administrative fine of OMR 50 is imposed for each day the violation continues, with a total of not more than OMR 2,000.”
“The fourth article requires those concerned to implement this decision from the date of its issuance,” the statement added.
The Public Authority for Consumer Protection confirmed that, “This decision comes in the interest of the consumer and protecting him from misleading, given that the fear that resulted from the spread of the coronavirus doubles the use of hand sanitizers.”
“And the tendency of consumers to intensify the purchase of detergents and sterilizers, which opened the door wide to enter many products that do not conform to the internationally approved specifications and not met the sterilization industry conditions,” the statement added.
