Higher Committee reviews Oman's e-census indicators

Muscat: The Higher Committee of Census 2020 held its first meeting of 2020 at the Interior Ministry on Sunday. It reviewed the progress achieved and the level of coverage of institutions’ databases.
Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, chaired the meeting.
The Committee reviewed the progress made in the trial operation stage of e-census 2020 schema, which relates to extracting first indicators and revising them. It affirmed that the project achieved 89 per cent of completion.
The meeting looked into efforts towards the completion of ‘activation of electronic connection’ between the departments tasked with the project.
It noted the level of completion of the trial stage of the project as regards connection of database of the Ministry of Health and database of the Ministry of Higher Education, as well as linkage of ‘residential address’ and ‘electricity account’ with records of the Civil Status department at Royal Oman Police.
The committee stressed the importance of a proposed mechanism of work for authentication of certificates of expatriate manpower (in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, the Manpower Ministry and Royal Oman Police).
It reviewed a report titled ‘Summary of National Data Strategy’ and the significance of this strategy for the formulation of an integrated frame of work to regulate data of the public and private sectors.
The committee reviewed media activities of the second stage of the National Data Campaign under the banner of ‘Participate In Shaping the Future’, which sends a direct call to individuals to update their data in the records of departments concerned. This second stage of the national data campaign includes the establishment of advertising platforms targeting all segments of society. It complements the first stage of the national campaign titled ‘Your Data, Your Identity’.
The committee pointed out that Census 2020 constitutes the real utilisation of data in developing a statistical process through which the Sultanate seeks to present an exemplary model of census based on proper records and real-time statistical indicators. It said that this is an objective that cannot be achieved without the collaboration of all individuals, establishments and institutions.
