273 private veterinary facilities provide services for livestock breeders in Oman

Muscat: A total of 273 private veterinary facilities in the Sultanate have been providing guidance, preventive, diagnostic and curative services for livestock breeders.

Manea Bin Sulaiman Al Alawi, Head of the Special Veterinary Services Department at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, confirmed that: “The number of private veterinary facilities in the Sultanate reached 273 establishments until the end of 2019, and include 156 clinics, 106 pharmacies and 11 laboratories.”

“Where these facilities contribute to maintaining the stability of the situation veterinary health and sustainable livestock sector development.” He added

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries pays special attention to private veterinary facilities and the organization of work in them, and the issuance of Royal Decree No. 22 of 2017 concerning the Law of Practicing Veterinary Medical Professions to regulate the mechanism of work in them and in other sectors related to veterinary medicine.

Al Alawi stated that: “The importance of these facilities is that they provide advisory, preventive, diagnostic, and treatment services to livestock breeders in the Sultanate and are complementary to the services provided by government veterinary clinics, and these facilities include clinics, pharmacies and veterinary laboratories spread in all governorates Sultanate.”

He said also that: “The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries represented by the Animal Health Department supervises the regulation of the mechanism of work of veterinarians in these institutions by conducting the necessary evaluation tests and issuing and renewing licenses to practice the profession, which is regulated by the above-mentioned Royal Decree.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries implements sudden and periodic inspection campaigns on private veterinary clinics to ensure compliance with health and technical requirements
