Oman's COVID-19 tracker app 'Tarassud' downloaded over 50,000 times

Muscat: More than 55,000 people have downloaded the Tarassud app that broadcasts the latest updates on the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the Sultanate, and has a tracking system for infected and persons under isolation.

According to the Director General of Information Technology at the Ministry of Health: "The number of downloads of the application has reached 55,000, which has strengthened the efforts of medical examination of suspected persons infected with COVID-19 through the automatic chat system. The application is also used by all health institutions in the Sultanate."

The official said in a statement: "At an advanced stage, an application will be made for the security authorities that includes pictures of the infected and people in isolation in order to limit their movement."

He added, "Hoping that in the future, a Rassid device would be used, which can be placed at the entrances of commercial centers, institutions and mosques, so that it issues an alarm when the isolated and the infected people pass through, without the need to open the application."

Last week the Supreme Committee for dealing with COVID-19 announced the launch of Tarassud Plus app, which is an update of the current Ministry of Health monitoring application Tarassud.
