Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Manpower has received 265 reports relating to employee welfare issues during the first quarter of 2020, as it continues to uphold the precautions put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In addition, inspection teams from the ministry have carried out more than 200 surprise visits to those companies that are still operating to ensure they maintain the standards recommended by the government.
"Around 265 reports were received through online service outlets until April 23, 2020,” said a statement from the Ministry of Manpower. “There are 165 reports related to the termination of workers’ services, the reduction of their wages, and the suspension of their leaves, and 100 reports related to non-compliance with preventive measures to ensure worker safety and reduce the spread of the coronavirus."
"Follow-up results show a commitment to these regulations by most facilities, but the non-compliance of around 65 facilities was registered by the ministry,” they added. “14 facilities were referred to the Public Prosecution.”
"Around 223 inspection visits were carried out across business involved in various economic activities during the first quarter of 2020,” the statement added. “Among these, seven facilities agreed to comply with occupational safety and health measures, and two were referred to the office of the public prosecutor."
The precautionary measures put in place to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus were issued by the Ministry of Manpower, to ensure occupational safety and proper employee health in places of business.
