Locals, expats encouraged to do shopping online

Muscat: People in Oman who wish to shop for their essential goods are being requested by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to do so online, to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
The advice came after the MOCI set up online delivery platforms as part of its ‘Shop from your home’ initiative, which was launched with help from Al Raffd Fund, and Riyada, the Public Authority for SME Development, which help support the creators of these platforms.
The ‘Shop from your home’ initiative is aimed towards giving more popularity to electronic applications to shop from stores, restaurants, and cafes. It also comes as an opportunity to introduce Omani companies to the practice of delivering orders of various goods, as well as make customers aware of the other services that are available to them online.
Muhammad Bin Mansour Al-Husaini, a founding partner of Bahhar platform, said: “This online platform offers enables customers, both in Oman and internationally, to bid on various varieties of fish all kinds of fish, as well as sell. It provides services in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. It serves the fisheries sector in the area of electronic marketing. The platform is aimed at providing its services to all the elements involved in fisheries marketing, such as fishermen and fish transport companies, whether they’re the markets, shops, companies, or individual consumers.”
Dr Matlooba Bint Ayoub Al-Zadjali, Executive Director of the International Centre for Specialized Cardiovascular Diseases, added: The centre provides, in addition to other services, home visits to cardiovascular patients, blood pressure patients, diabetics with varicose veins, and diabetics who have wounds. We have a well-prepared team consisting of a doctor and a nurse who arrive at the patient's home and carry out all the procedures and perform the treatments needed by the patient.
“With this service, the patient does not need to come to the centre, instead, we reach the patient,” she added. “We also offer a wound dressing service at people’s homes. We also take samples from homes, should patients require lab tests, and we then analyse these samples are the centre and give them results. We also provide medical prescription to patients through social media platforms such as WhatsApp.”
