Public Prosecution receives reports on infringement of public funds

Muscat: The Public Prosecution has received reports about a number of citizens infringing on the public funds in the Sultanate.

A statement issued online by the Public Prosecution said, “The Public Prosecutor received several reports from the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources about a number of citizens infringing on the public funds; in possession of government lands illegally, taking advantage of the current exceptional circumstances.”

“This is criminalized by law, and imposes a penalty of up to 3 years in prison, with the removal of those holdings,” the statement added.

The statement also said, “Therefore, the Public Prosecution calls upon all who seek to infringe on the prohibition of public funds by not subjecting it to or harming it.”

“As the maintenance of public money is a shared national responsibility, the public prosecution calls on everyone not to hesitate to report any illegal holdings that affect public funds and encroach on its prohibitions,” the statement added.
