Muscat: The Government Communications Centre (GC) has denied claims that have been circulating the social media platforms regarding the attendance of employees in the private sector to perform their duties.
An online statement issued by the GC said, "There is no truth in what is being circulated in the social media about the attendance of employees in the private sector to perform their duties. The Supreme Committee has advised that the private sector should take necessary measures to reduce the number of employees however not affecting the performance of its basic duties."
The GC has also quashed claims of about 15 coronavirus cases, infected by a scholarship student who returned from the United States of America (USA).
In its statement, the GC said, “There is no truth in what being circulated in the social media about 15 coronavirus cases emerging from one family as a result of being infected by a scholarship student who returned from the US and didn’t comply with the procedures of domestic isolation.”
“Spreading false information and rumours is a crime punishable up to three years of imprisonment," the statement added.
