Here’s how you can help children better understand the dangers of COVID-19

Muscat: Parents are expected to prepare answers to any questions children might have about the novel coronavirus, in a way that is easy for them to understand and remember.

Oman’s Government Communications Centre has recommended the use of visual aids, particularly in the case of smaller children, to help them understand how COVID-19 affects infected people and those around them.

“Prepare answers to the questions which are expected to be asked by children by using videos or drawings on COVID-19, that are suitable for their age,” explained the communications centre.

The government body also provided advice on how to keep children busy during a time like this, when people are required to stay indoors to reduce the spread of the disease.

“Provide a space for children at home, to show their creativity and talents, such as art and sport activities,” they said. “Strengthen family relationships through interactive activities and dialogues such as games and audio stories.”

“Allocated specific times for the use of smart devices and monitors, with a selection of apps appropriate for their age,” explained the communications centre. “Use smart devices to enable children’s communication with their peers about their experiences during this period.”
