Shops across Oman to close due to COVID-19 outbreak

Muscat: All shops in Oman, except those which sell essential goods, will be temporarily shut in line with the decisions of the Supreme Committee to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

A statement from the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) said, “In line with the decisions of the Supreme Committee entrusted with dealing the spread of the coronavirus, the ministry has closed all shops outside of commercial complexes, except food stores, clinics and pharmacies and opticians.”

Muscat Municipality also issued a similar statement, which said: “The municipality has decided to close all shops within the governorate of Muscat as of today, March 23, 2020.

Establishments that are exempted from this decision are food and consumer goods stores, clinics, pharmacies and optical stores, restaurants and cafes outside malls, which are allowed takeaway and delivery services only, and fuel stations

“Muscat Municipality looks forward for everyone’s cooperation to abide by the above decisions and it will take the necessary legal measures against violators,” the statement said.

In addition, people who wish to pay for parking must not have physical contact with the metres. Parking payments must only be made through the text-messaging service.
