Muscat: Genesis recently announced that its new flagship sedan, the 2020 G90, earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), USA. G90 also earned a superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle interactions, avoiding collisions in 12 and 25 mph track tests. The brand’s other 2020 model year vehicles, the entry-luxury G70 and the mid-luxury G80, both received the same accolade in mid-February. Genesis is the only brand in the industry with an entire lineup of Top Safety Pick+ rated vehicles.

For a 2020 vehicle to achieve a Top Safety Pick + rating, it must: have “Good” ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, receive an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for available front crash prevention —vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, and must have “Acceptable” or “Good” headlights as standard equipment.
The G90 also earned an advanced rating for pedestrian front crash prevention. In each of the vehicle-to-pedestrian test scenarios, the G90 avoided collisions in the lower-speed tests and achieved significant speed reductions in the higher-speed tests.
“Nighttime visibility is critical to highway safety, so we’re particularly glad to see that the G90 comes standard with headlights that earn a good rating in our tests. This means that all new G90 buyers will drive away with a vehicle that provides good visibility while also limiting glare to other road users,” says IIHS Chief Research Officer, David Zuby.

Lane Follow Assist (LFA) goes beyond the existing Lane Keep Assist system, actively working to keep the vehicle centred in its lane for reduced fatigue.
Highway Driving Assist (HDA) works in conjunction with LFA and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to manage the vehicle’s speed and lane position, taking into account lane markings, navigation data, and the movement of the vehicle ahead.
Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) uses the side cameras to show the driver a video image in the instrument cluster display when the turn signal is activated; unlike other such systems, it functions for both sides.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist (RCCA-A) uses side radar to detect approaching obstacles, braking to avoid a collision if required.
Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist (FCA-A) can now detect cyclists, in addition to other vehicles and pedestrians.
Safe Exit Assist (SEA) alerts the driver and passengers if with a chime and cluster warning message when an object is approaching the doors.
Also, the 2020 G90 delivers a stable driving experience with H-TRAC, an advanced all-wheel-drive system that detects road conditions with sensors at each wheel. Combined with advanced electronic stability control, H-TRAC enhances vehicle stability on unfamiliar roads or in inclement weather.
