Oman first country in the Middle East to get this technology

Muscat: For first time in the Middle East Oman Broadband Company will provide users with fiber optic cables which will run through water pipes, needing to additional excavation work.

According to the company, the new technology will reduce excavation work within the homes of the residents and citizens, leading to better utilisation of available resources and speed provision of the service to subscribers in a record time of about two hours, in addition to reducing the noise during installation work, when compared to traditional methods.

Oman Broadband Company, in collaboration with local partner Swift Beam, has developed the Atlantis Hirotic technology exclusively manufactured by Crowley Limited, which enables the extension of fibre optic cables through water pipes without the need for excavation work.

Atlantis Hydrotec is based on the extension of a small diameter tube inside the water pipe that is used to fill the water tank by water tankers from the outer wall of the house to the roof of the house or anywhere else, that makes it easy to get the cable inside homes. The small tube is used to pass the fiber-optic cable to the point to be reached.

Oman Wide Broadband has been using the Atlantis Hydrotec technology for the first time in the Middle East by connecting a subscriber's home to a 1GB Internet package with the same technology.

Eng. Bader Al Zaidi, Executive Vice President of Technical and Commercial Affairs,at Oman Broadband company said: "I hope that this technology (if it is adopted) will allow subscribers to connect with service in record time in addition it will reduce noise compared to traditional methods.

He added: "I would thank the Public Authority of Electricity and Water for their responsiveness and support to make this experience a success."

Ahmed Al Rawahi, Technology Director, Swift Beam, said: "I am delighted with the success of the experience and the added value added to Oman's broadband delivery mechanism, which is the result of the strategic partnership between the public and private sectors because of its importance in enhancing local capabilities."
