Oman's transport ministry announces measures to prevent COVID-19 spread

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport has established a number of preventive measures for public transport, including leaving a vacant seat between each passenger and providing hand sanitizers in every taxi, bus, or ferry.

The Ministry said in a statement: "As part of the precautionary measures taken to limit the spread of COVID-19 and in the interest of the safety of users of public transport in the Sultanate, a number of preventive measures have been introduced for all public transportation."

These measures include reducing the number of taxi passengers to just four including the driver, leaving one seat vacant between each passenger in buses, ferries, personnel transport vehicles, construction site vehicles and other transportation.

"Daily cleanup is required and cleaning of all public transport vehicle facilities and seats at the start and end of each trip will be followed. Providing hand sanitizers inside the vehicle will be mandatory," the Ministry added.

The steps taken also include preventing passengers from standing in buses and ferries to reduce congestion, measuring the body temperature of passengers before they enter public transport vehicles and following of all health instructions issued by the Ministry of Health.
