Average household income in Oman jumps by more than 21%

Muscat: A new survey has revealed that the average monthly income of households in Oman has recorded an increase of 21.5 per cent to reach OMR1,173, compared to the results of a survey in 2011, when it was only OMR965.
The percentage of pension pay, which 15 per cent of Omani households depend on, recorded an increase by 15 per cent, compared to 5.5 per cent in 2011, according to the results of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The percentage of transfers and other sources of income also increased to 2.6 per cent, compared to 1.2 per cent in 2011, the NCSI added. The survey, implemented by NCSI and conducted among 5,660 Omani and expatriate households, started on October 20, 2018 and was carried out for the fourth time.

Key findings

• The results also showed that 91.2 per cent of Omani households own a house, compared to 87.6 per cent in the 2011 survey.
• The percentage of Omani households living in villas also increased to 56.8 per cent, compared to 36.9 per cent in the survey of 2011.
• The percentage of expatriate households living in rented houses increased to 68.5 per cent, compared to 49.4 per cent in 2011.
• The average monthly expenditure on education and culture decreased to 5.9 per cent compared to the 7.3 per cent as in the results of 2011 survey.
• The average medical expenses increased to 2 per cent, compared to 1.8 per cent in 2011.
