Commerce Ministry to ensure no cement shortage in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) will take measures to ensure there is no shortage of cement in the market. A notice issued by MOCI commented on the social media posts on cement shortage in some governorates and said, "The Ministry will coordinate with Omani cement companies to ensure supply in all governorates and look at an increase in operational capacity to cover shortages, if any."

The MOCI will also make clearances for imported shipments directly from various outlets. "Even if the shipments are not accompanied by conformity certificates," the statement said. The Ministry confirmed that it had not stopped importing cement products from abroad while applying procedures to check imported products at entry points, with a view to ensuring their compliance with the requirements and standards approved in the Sultanate, after receiving a number of complaints from contractors and consumers about the low quality of imported products targeting the Omani market.

"Authorities will take random samples from distributors in the market. In case of non-conformity, suppliers and distributors will be required to pay fees for laboratory tests and tests and recover the products sold," the MOCI said.
