Oman's Salalah Free Zone to get a cable car factory

Muscat: The Salalah Free Zone in Oman’s southern Dhofar Governorate will soon have a cable car manufacturing and assembly plant, after an agreement confirming the same was signed by officials from the organisation.
A statement from Salalah Free Zone said, “In Turkey, the Salalah Free Zone signed a usufruct agreement to establish a cable car installation and assembly station on a land area of 5,000 square metres.”
The cars could then be exported to other countries, as well as be used for tourist activities in Oman. Travel by cable car at high altitudes is considered a rather popular tourist activity, owing to the great views tourists get.
The agreement to set up this cable car facility is one of many that were recently signed by Salalah Free Zone, in a bid to encourage more companies to set up operations in Oman. Earlier this month, the Salalah Free Zone sent a delegation to a pharmaceutical conference in India to invited countries to construct plants in Oman, and in January this year, the foundation stone for a bus assembly factory was laid at the free zone.
Salalah Free Zone’s efforts to bring more industrial companies to Oman is part of the Sultanate’s Tanfeedh programme for economic diversification, which has plans to expand its manufacturing sector as one of the five areas of development for economic growth. Tourism is another area of targeted expansion, as are agriculture and fisheries, energy and mining, and logistics and transportation.
