Zubair faces Elegant, LC Tech takes on OHI in Senior Cup semifinals

Muscat: Fazal Khan ripped Basta CT apart, in a Senior Cup Knockout quarterfinal taking 6 for 23 as Zubair CT set up a semi-final clash with Unique Elegant on March 13 with a 40-run victory at Muscat Municipality ground 1 in Amerat.

In the other Senior Cup quarterfinal, LC Tech rode on Jaleel M’s superb spell in which he claimed 4 for 10 to beat NBO Muzn by 8 wickets and meet Douglas OHI in the semi-final on Friday March 13.

Amjad Muhammed and Mubashar Iqbal’s half centuries were the highlight of Zubair’s 162 for 9 which it managed to defend quite comfortably thanks to brilliant bowling by Fazal and Iqbal Mudassar who took two wickets. Ahmed Murtaz was the only Basta batsman to impress, scoring 50 off 36 in Basta’s 122 all out in 20 overs.

A four-wicket burst by LC Tech’s Jaleel was instrumental in NBO Muzn getting dismissed for a paltry 128 in 19.1 overs with only Faizan Tufail making a noteworthy score of 43.

LC Tech had no trouble chasing down the small total, winning the game in 16.2 overs by reaching 129 for 2. Ravindu Weeramuni led the way with a solid 68 while Jaleel contributed valuable 28.

Brief Scores (Senior Knockout quarterfinal): NBO Muzn 128 all out in 19.1 overs (Faizan Tufail 43 – 3x4, 2x6, Jaleel M 4-10) lost to LC Tech 129 for 2 in (Ravindu Weeramuni 68 – 8x4, Jaleel M 28 – 2x4) by 8 wickets.

Arif, Bilal lift Gitacs, Asger stars in Sketch’s win

Veteran Arif Hussain’s match-winning 107 and Ali Bilal’s magnificent all-round display powered Gitacs to a 51-run win over Aflag Group in a Junior Cup quarterfinal game at Muscat Municipality ground 2 in Amerat.

Apart from Arif’s terrific ton, Gitacs’ big total was boosted by Ali’s brilliant 51 which was followed by his four-wicket spell that restricted Aflag Group to 145 for 7 in 20 overs.

Gitacs will now play Sketch International in the semi-final match on Friday, March 13.

In the other quarterfinal of the day, Ali Asger’s 81 off 42 fired Sketch International into the semi-final against Gitacs after it secured a 5-wicket win over Spanio VDD in a high-scoring thriller at the same venue.

Hiran Oliyath (68) and Jeason Jacob (42) were Spanio’s main scorers as it reached 190 for 6 in 20 overs. Muhammed Ghafoor claimed 3 for 42.

Sketch batted with considerable authority, surpassing the total with an over to spare, scoring 192 for 5 thanks to Asger’s magnificent knock. Yusuf Patanwala batted well too, scoring an unbeaten 39 off 22.
