Muscat: The Zubair Corporation (Z-Corp) recently organised a Corporate Cup Cricket Tournament which brought together enthusiastic cricket teams from about 16 major corporate companies from across Oman.
The friendly tournament was conceived more as an opportunity for corporate executives and team members to meet in an affable ambiance and network with each other. It also aimed at forging a healthy business relation between Z-Corp, its group companies and the other corporate teams that took part in this tournament.
The Zubair Corporate Cup Cricket Tournament 2020 was held at the municipal ground number three and four in Al Amerat. To lend more credibility and fairness to the entire tournament all matches were officiated by umpires as well as scorers provided by Oman Cricket.
16 corporate teams met on a cold, windy Friday morning and rolled their sleeves to compete against each other in a knock-out draw that ensured each team had an equal opportunity to advance to the quarter finals, semis and then to the final match, which was held at 3:30pm on the same day.
His Excellency Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman was the chief guest at the finals. Mohammed Al Hasani, Chief Communications Officer, who was the guest of honour presided over the prize distribution ceremony.
Both the dignitaries gave away the glittering Zubair Corporate Cup to the winning team Shamal Plastic Industries from Sohar, with each team member being awarded a gold medal. L&T Hydrocarbon won the runners-up trophy along with silver medals being distributed for each team member and the third position trophy was bagged by Composite Pipes Industry.
Individual trophies were also given away to the best bowler (Mr. Venkatesh Acharya from Composite Pipes Industry), best batsman (Mr. Sharath Acharya from L&T Hydrocarbon), maximum sixes (Mr. Ashok Acharya from Composite Pipes Industry) and man of the series (Mr. Shakeel Ahmed from Assarain).
Commenting on the Corporate Cup, Indian Ambassador Munu Mahawar appreciated the initiative and efforts taken by Z-Corp to host the tournament. He congratulated the group for bringing 16 corporate teams together to play a friendly and invigorating game of cricket, thus providing an opportunity for networking and helping grow trust with other corporate stake holders.
On behalf of Z-Corp, Mohammed Al Hasani thanked the participating teams for joining in the first edition of The Zubair Corporate Cup Cricket Tournament.
He also lauded the efforts of the organising committee within the Zubair Group which was led by Mohan Sebastian and other committee members comprising of Manoj Ranade, Ananthraman, Akash Uppoor, Narasimha Raju, Asique Kunhalakath, Binu Koshy and Prajeesh Unnikuttan
The event was sponsored by The Zubair Group of Companies consisting of Oasis Water, National Finance, Infocomm, Elco , ARA Petroleum, Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa and Sweets of Oman.
The event was a grand success and looking at the wonderful response received, Z-Corp hopes to convert this into an annual feature in the future.
