Muscat: Developing Oman’s private sector will be among the priorities of the upcoming five-year plan, which is currently being drawn up by the Supreme Council for Planning (SCP). As part of the efforts in this direction, a workshop featuring more than 70 organisations representing the government and private sector was held. The subject of the workshop was: ‘Private Sector: Investment and International Cooperation Priority’, which aims to cover the 12 key priorities of the four central themes of the Oman Vision 2040. These include establishing a society of creative individuals, a competitive economy, and safe environmental and natural resources, in addition to a state with a responsible apparatus. “The workshop aims to analyse the current situation, define challenges and select priority objectives, which are in line with Oman Vision 2040,” explained a statement from the Supreme Council for Planning. “The workshop highlighted the strategic goals of the vision and performance indicators and shed light on the methodology used to develop the 10th Five-Year Plan. “Proposed programmes to stimulate the participation of the private sector in the 10th Five-Year Plan are one of the key pillars of economic development in Oman,” added the statement. “The workshop was organised for two days, with the participation of relevant stakeholders, and included a brainstorming session to analyse the challenges facing the accomplishment of the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.”
