Faulty electrical devices major cause of fire in Oman, Ministry says

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) in Oman urged consumers to only purchase electrical devices that conform to specifications and standards.

An online statement by the MOCI said, “Ensure the presence of the Gulf tracking code on electrical appliances. Poor devices affect consumer safety and health, the presence of the Gulf Conformity Badge and the QR code on electrical appliances guarantees the quality of the product. Read the safety instructions that came with the electrical product before you start using it. Wrong electrical installations are one of the main causes of fires. Large pressure on the electrical sockets and overloading is a major factor in fires.”

The Ministry said that 3699 residential buildings were burnt down from 2016 until the end of 2018.
