Cricketers from Oman shine in inaugural Qatar T10 league

Muscat: Cricketers from Oman have been making waves on the world stage. Their hard work and perseverance have brought laurels for the Sultanate. Their assiduous efforts paid off when they got an entry ticket for the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in 2020.
Becoming cynosure of all eyes with their performance, four of Oman’s national team players-‑ Sufyan Mehmood, Adnan Ilyas, Ajay Lalcheta and Mehran Khan were invited to play at the inaugural Qatar T10 league recently.
The tournament had the likes of famous Test cricketers such as Hashim Amla, Kamran Akmal, Mohammed Hafeez, Salman Butt, Mohammed Sami, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Sami Aslam, Sohaib Maqsood, Ajantha Mendis, Umar Akmal, Sikandar Raza among others. Mehran Khan and Adnan Ilyas were in the Pearl Gladiators team led by skipper Mohammed Sami and Sohaib Maqsood who have played for the Pakistan team in the past.
Ajay Lalcheta was in the team Desert Riders, commanded by Mohammed Hafeez and Sohail Tanveer; Sufyan Mehmood was with Swift Gallopets whose skipper was Kamran Akmal and noted Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul was also in the team.
Players from Oman had a great learning experience playing with the top world cricketers.
In the matches played, Sufyan Mehmood got one wicket for 12 runs against Desert Riders including the wicket of Pakistani all-rounder Mohammed Hafeez.
He also took the wicket of Pakistan player Mohammed Sami in the match against Pearl Gladiators and gave away only 9 runs. He was not out in all the games with average scores of 13 in all the matches.
Oman team player Adnan Ilyas scored 18 runs in eight balls against Flying Oryx and 20 runs in eight balls against Falcon Hunters. Similarly, Mehran Khan scored 19 runs in 10 balls against Heat Stormer and also got two wickets, including the prized scalp of Hashim Amla. He also scored 16 runs in 9 balls against Falcon Hunters.
Meanwhile, Ajay Lalcheta got one wicket for 21 runs against Falcon Hunters. He got the wicket of Mohammad Rizlan, the Qatar National team batsman. In the match against Flying Oryx, he got one wicket for 15 runs. He scalped Harmandeep Singh, the Canada national team batsman.
