Increase in women, decrease in men getting driving licences in Oman

Muscat: The number of women receiving driving licences in Oman in 2018 rose, while the number of men who received licences dropped during the same period.

According to the annual facts and figures handbook released by the Royal Oman Police, in 2018, there were 25,059 women who received their licences, an increase from 24,201 in 2017, and 21,931 in 2016. During this period, however, the number of males who received their driving licences dropped from 57,605 in 2016 to 57,153 in 2017, and 47,512 in 2018.

The total number of drivers’ licences issued also fell in 2018. 72,571 drivers’ licences were issued in 2018, down from 81,354 the previous year. In 2016, 79,536 licences were issued.
