This weekend, why not take a drive to Nizwa and visit Wadi Tanuf, where you not only find some fresh cool waters but also a quiet spot to camp and barbecue besides the mountainous terrains. Located at the foot of Jabal Al Akhdar, around 20 km behind Nizwa, is Tanuf village. From Muscat, drive to Nizwa and then straight towards Hamra.
Keen on spreading awareness of Oman’s ancient history, in addition to organising guided tours and building tourist facilities in those areas it wishes to promote, the Ministry of Tourism is also organising events in those parts of the country it wishes people to see and experience.

One of them is the Haute Route Oman cycling race, and the 2020 version of this will pass through Tanuf which, by the way, is the inspiration for the brand of drinking water we find so commonly stocked on shelves in supermarkets across the country.
“Stage 3 has been extended from the 2019 route and will now start in the ancient lost city of Tanuf whose evocative ruins will be the launch pad for a 30 km time-trial passing the Al Hoota Cave into Al Hamra before the climb to the finish in Misfat Al Abriyeen,” said the Ministry of Tourism.
