Transformer blast leads to power outage in Oman

Muscat: An explosion in the main electricity transformer in Nizwa has caused power cuts in the city as well as at Manah, Al Hamra and Tanuf.

An official source in the electricity company, affiliated to Namaa Group, said. "There was an explosion in the main electricity transformer in Nizwa, which led to power cuts in Nizwa and on the path of the electricity lines leading to Tanuf, Manah and Al Hamra today at 11 AM on Sunday morning.”

“The maintenance teams rushed to the scene of the explosion and the power lines leading to Tanuf and Al Hamra were restored while Nizwa and Manah are still without electricity and the team is now trying to fix it,” the official added.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known. The electricity company called on citizens and residents in Nizwa and Manah to wait as the engineers were doing their best to restore power as soon as possible.
