Dedicated to showcasing Oman’s cultural and civil heritage, the National Museum of Oman is located in the heart of old Muscat, alongside Al Alam Palace, one of the official residences of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman. The National Museum of Oman focuses on promoting heritage, culture and science, and contains artefacts that date back thousands of years. Such is the treasure trove of cultural wealth available within, the museum has also shared ancient Omani relics with other museums in the GCC and around the world.
With Oman being on the crossroads of ancient maritime trading routes, and having been home to several ancient civilisations, the National Museum of Oman is a truly enlightening experience for history lovers who want to see how this part of the world was thousands of years ago, and witness how it has evolved through the centuries. The National Museum is open from Saturday to Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm, and from 2 pm to 6 pm on Fridays.
