HEC Paris in Qatar ‘close to home’ choice for Oman-based executives to study for International Executive MBA

HEC Paris, ranked number 3 worldwide in Executive Education by the Financial Times in 2019, is signing up increasing numbers of Oman-based executives to its part-time International Executive MBA (EMBA) and custom-designed corporate programs. The world-class business school enables Omani executives to study at its Qatar campus, which brings globally ranked executive education within easy reach of the Sultanate’s aspiring public and private sector leaders.

HEC Paris in Qatar asserts its part-time International Executive MBA (EMBA), for which the next intake is February 2020, provides executives in Oman with the fundamental skills to expand their knowledge and leadership capabilities for the digital transformation age. Executives have nine majors to choose from, allowing them to specialize in a field of their choice.

Tariq Atiq, the Deputy General Manager of Bank Muscat’s Corporate Banking Group, is a current participant of the International Executive MBA program. Tariq, who flies to Qatar every two months for each of the 6-day modules, is majoring in ‘Leading Digital Transformation‘, and he hopes to leverage learning to assist the bank’s digital transformation journey. During the 16-month program, Tariq will also attend two, five-day sessions at overseas locations.

“I chose HEC Paris from a list of universities recommended by our bank’s learning and development department, due to its reputation and the major it offered”, explained Tariq. “The modular program represents a great learning opportunity for me in developing a strategic vision and strong leadership skills. Furthermore, its part-time offering is an ideal fit into any busy working schedule and allows me to study for my EMBA while remaining focused on my job. HEC Paris in Qatar was also recommended by my colleague who is an HEC Paris’ EMBA alumni, class of 2015. He is now my boss.”

Other key strengths which swayed Tariq’s choice was the support of the dedicated staff of HEC Paris in Qatar, its world-class faculty and the excellent flight connections between Oman and Qatar.

“Flying outside of Oman to pursue executive education was not a hurdle as Qatar is easily accessible from Oman with several daily flights between the two countries. Additionally, the availability of technology in the program makes it easy to communicate, participate and attend webinars,” he explained.

Tariq expects the EMBA program to equip him with the latest leadership, strategy and management expertise, which he can leverage during the banks’ digital transformation phase. “It will also inspire me to put innovation into practice throughout my professional life,” he added.

Moreover, HEC Paris believes its custom-made programs, which focus on the co-creation of value to drive organizational performance and competitiveness, will assist Omani organizations in aligning with the Sultanate’s five-year development plan. ‘The future vision (Oman 2020)’ is aimed at diversifying the country's oil-dependent economy by encouraging growth, development and increased competitiveness.
