Muscat: Racing fans in Oman will get their first chance to see, hear and feel the roar of a Formula 1 car on home soil when the Red Bull Racing championship winning car takes to the streets of Muscat as part of a weekend of full-throttle action.
The action gets underwaytoday at two special ‘Fire Up’ events where the car will be available for members of the public to see and hear close up. The car will be unveiled at Omantel Headquarters at 2pm and again later today (April 7.) at the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) from 5PM. Fans will have the chance to get up close with the car and hear the roar of its engine – the same car that claimed the 2012 Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors Championship.

Suleiman Al Rawahi, Oman Automobile Association Managing Director, said: “We are thrilled to be organising this event and to be bringing such a truly unique experience to Oman. This event came as results of working together with Red Bull Oman and part of OAA motorsport development in Oman. Motorsports in Oman has grown rapidly in the past three years and continues to do so.”
Talking about the popularity of motorsports, Al Rawahisaid: “It’s in their blood; Omanis adore all kind of motorsports disciplines. We are looking forward to the hosting a Fire Up at the Oman Automobile Association as a teaser to get people ready for what we have in store for them tomorrow.”
Al Rawahi added: “After this event we will start working on the next big event that is coming to Oman which is the Red Bull Car Park Drift Regional Final.”
Visitors will be able to feel the power up close of the Formula 1 car - a machine that competes in the most strategic and technologically advanced motorsport in the world as it tears around the corners of the world’s most famous racetracks.
Tomorrow (April 8.) the highly anticipated Red Bull F1 Showrun will see David Coulthard gets behind the wheel and put the car through its paces on the roads around Muscat’s picturesque corniche.
The Showrun Team has been to every inhabited continent on the planet. Travelling the world, the car has raced on cobbled city streets in Europe and across baking deserts in the Americas, it has conquered the highest road in the Himalayas, skated on frozen rivers in Canada and driftingacross golden Caribbean beaches. And now it’s Oman’s turn to experience the power of Red Bull Racing.
This Red Bull F1 Showrunwill be held under the patronage of H.H SayyidTaimur Bin Assad Al-Said and organised by the Oman Automobile Association and Royal Oman Police with the support of the Ministry of Tourism. The event is being held in partnership with Omantel, KhimjiRamdas, HiFM, Hala FM, Times of Oman, Shabiba, Holiday Inn Muscat Al Seeb and City Vago.
