Manpower suspension for companies that do not renew expat cards

Muscat: Companies that fail to renew the labour cards of their expat employees can face a suspension of all manpower services, according to the Ministry of Manpower.

The announcement means that companies will have thirty days to either renew the labour cards of their expat workers, or let the expat workers go. Otherwise, the company will not be able to benefit from ministry services.

The statement by the ministry read: “The ministry announces that it will implement the Ministerial Decree No. (90/2013) specifying the procedures and controls for dealing with private sector establishments in violation of the provisions of the Labour Law and the resolutions regulating it by stopping the provision of service to all private sector establishments and individuals who have not renewed the labour cards for their non-Omani workforce.”

Companies should comply with the regulations “within 30 days from the date of publication of the announcement”, according to the announcement, or the ministry will stop providing its manpower services to these companies.

Companies will have to pay their dues to the ministry and renew the labour cards of their employees, or they can also let go of the expats working in their companies without a valid labour card.

“This announcement constitutes a claim that the financial dues should be paid to the ministry or correct the [current number of] non-Omani workforce ,” the statement added. “In case of non-compliance, the ministry will take the necessary legal measures against the defaulting establishments.

“Establishments that have pending dues should pay them on time,” the statement added.
