Muscat: A training programme titled “Auditing Internal Audit Systems Based on the INTOSAI Standards” began at Crown Plaza Hotel, Muscat on Sunday.
The programme is hosted and organised by the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institute (SFAAI).
The course comes as part of the execution of the training and scientific research plan 2019 of the Arab Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), and is attended by a number of auditors and accountants from several Arab audit bureaus and institutions such as; Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, Algeria, Iraq, Palestine, Libya and Sudan as well as the Sultanate and a representative from the ARABOSAI.
The training course aims to reinforce the role of audit institutions in implementing their mandates based on best practices, international methodologies and adopted standards issued by the International Organisation for Supreme Audit institutions (INTOSAI). The programme is to introduce the participants to the concept of internal audit as per the INTOSAI standards, in addition to equipping them with the skill-sets relevant to how to evaluate internal audit audits and identifying their impact on the overall audit process.
The 5-day course touches upon several subject matters mainly; the concept of internal audit and guidelines based on standards No. 9001, components and fundamentals of internal audit system and the link between them, review of questions and critical investigation in diagnosing and understanding internal audit systems, as well as evaluation of internal control procedures and their relation to internal audit system. In addition, the programme will also highlight the role of the internal and external auditor in the assessment of internal audit systems, procedures and steps for evaluating and auditing internal audit system, along with examining the relation between risks and internal audit systems, principle of due professional care and other relevant matters.
It is worth noting that SFAAI was elected as a member of the Executive Council of the ARABOSAI for the term (2017-2022) during the meeting of the 12th cycle of the General Assembly of the ARABOSAI in Tunisia, October 2016.
