Muscat: Arnav Mohnot won the boys under-13 singles title at the on-going Annual Table Tennis Tournament of the Indian Social Club Oman.
In the final, nine-year-old Arnav played with conviction and displayed brilliance beyond his young shoulders. He defied his elder opponents and in the final rallied from a game down to defeat 6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 13-11.
Vishant started on a positive note and after winning the first game raced to an early lead before Arnav went on the offensive to win the second and third games.
The fourth game was evenly contested and Arnav shrugged off an early deficit and held his nerves before edging past to win the fourth game and the under-13 title.
Earlier in the semi-final, Arnav had defeated Jinay Bafna9-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-9 and Vaishant overcame Anirudh Menon 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 for a place in the final.
The top seeded team of Mayank Mehta and Rehan Ahmed will take on the second seeded duo of Adhyatm Sharma and Viren Kundnani in the finals of the junior doubles event. Adhyatm and Viren booked a place in the final after defeating Vaishant Bafna and Taher with a convincing 11-6, 11-6, 11-2 win in the semi final.
In the other semi final Adhyatm and Viren. Mayank and Rehan also advanced to the final after coasting to a 11-2, 11-7, 11-3 victory over Arnav Mohnot and Jinay Bafna.
Viren Kundnani upset top seed Shounak Kelkar in the semi final of the boys under-17 singles and lined up a clash in the final against second seed Adhyatm Sharma who downed third seed Mayank Mehta in the semi final.
In a superb exhibition of table tennis, Viren stunned Shounak 11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-8, 15-13 and in the other exciting semi final, Adhyatm Sharma prevailed over Mayank with scores of 12010, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8.
