Municipal council discusses regulating children entertainment centres

Muscat: The Municipal Council in Muscat is discussing regulating children’s entertainment centres in Muscat.
According to the authorities, this move will ensure the safety of children in such centres by implementing age restrictions and other safety procedures.
An official from Muscat Municipality said to Times of Oman, “This is still the beginning of the path towards realising our goals over this important issue.”
The Muscat Municipal Council met on Saturday to discuss the importance of placing such restrictions.
There are specific issues that the council has in mind.
“The most important points are to properly dictate the age limit for children at these centres, as well as their work times, and to direct these centres to place a sign at the entrance which makes this information known. Finally, the games at the centres should be categorised in accordance with how fitting they are for various age groups and who all can enter these centres,” the official said.
This came during the second meeting of the committee for general affairs at the Municipal Council, headed by Malik Hilal Al Yahmadi.
The statement added, “The committee decided to contact Muscat Municipality’s Directorate of Health Affairs regarding creating a list of rules and regulations for starting an activity with entertainment centres, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Royal Oman Police.”
The meeting also discussed getting service providers [internet, water, electricity] to follow safety procedures in order to keep passersby and workers safe during construction work or providing services to buildings.
