Muscat: Telecommunications giant Vodafone will become the third service provider in Oman after it signs an agreement with Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) on Thursday.
In a statement issued online, MoTC said: “Today there will be a signing for a strategic partnership to found the third provider for mobile telecom services between Oman Future Telecommunications and the British company Vodafone."
In May 2019, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced that a memorandum of understanding had been signed between a group of investment funds in Oman and Vodafone.
At the time, the TRA said in a statement: “TRA welcomes such trade agreements, which is one of the jurisdictions of the licensing entities. The authority regards such agreements as a positive indicator that the telecommunications market in the Sultanate is an attractive market for international and domestic investors, thus enhancing the chances of competition."
