Muscat: Teachers at a school, who allowed students to cheat on their finals for their diplomas, have been fined and jailed, according to Oman’s Public Prosecution (PP). According to a statement by the Public Prosecution, upto 45 students of Grade 12 have been accused of copying answers in their English finals. "The students were divided into three batches, and each classroom held 17 students. 14 cases of cheating were identified in the first and second examination halls, whereas the answers of all students in the third hall were similar." PP added, "All students were found with similar answers to the question - 'What they want to be in the future?’” The Public Prosecution decided to investigate the case after receiving a report from the Ministry of Education about a mass-cheating scandal in the final English exam by the general diploma students in the school. The court has imposed a fine of OMR500 and jailed the invigilators for one year for violating their duties. Oman’s Education Ministry has also ordered the students to retake the exam.
